Best iOS game I played so far.
Best iOS game I played so far.
I’m not one to usually get motion sick playing games, but the constant wavering and flickering light had me taking breaks. The companion journal also doesn’t work on my iPad (it won’t scroll or allow me to enter a code). Other than that the artwork and atmosphere is good, and puzzles are fun enough.
No sound. It’s just an image of a house with no controls on screen.
I never leave reviews on games. Because I never care much to. But I can genuinely say this game has impacted me so much since I’d first gotten it in 2018. It’s impacted so much of my art and I will always keep coming back to it. Thank you for making this game.
So I enjoyed this game a lot, there’s not a lot of dark atmospheric phone games and it delivered in that sense. If I had a criticism it would probably be that it was pretty short/not a whole lot of play time. I spent most of my time with this game stuck on figuring out puzzles, when I did get what I was supposed to do they were really quick and easy to complete, and there weren’t that many. I really enjoyed the story, and how it came full circle, but there’s a pretty big trigger warning needed here for anyone who struggles with su*c*dal ideation.
C’mon. This game is a back-and-forth nightmare with frustrating controls. It got three for being an interesting story but it boils down to retreading territory over and over again in a way that puts JRPGs to shame.
Love this game but it won’t play sound on my phone at all. Please patch it!
Volume disappeared and can’t fix it. Tried reinstalling. iPhone 11 with latest iOS and everything else on my phone works perfect. Looks nice too bad I can’t finish it.
Interesting game and gorgeous aesthetic, but it’s not working right.
Amazing! The combination of horror and mystery made the game all the better, and the puzzles were enjoyable, to say the least. I WOULD give this game a 5/5 star. The only problem I have... Is the length. The length of the game is definitely NOT worth $4. Other then that, good job!
Make sure you get to the true ending
This game consoles me whenever I play it.
You can pass on this one. Too demonic. Device 6 is so much better
I played this game years ago when it was first released, and just the other day thought about it though I couldn’t remember what it was called! I searched through hundreds of my old apps that I had downloaded on the past and FINALLY found it. I vaguely remembered the game and actually couldn’t remember how to solve any if the puzzles at all, which was a good thing in that it allowed me to play through the game again while having to really think! I loved it just as much the second time I played through, and I’m excited to read through the companion app. Congratulations on this game, I thoroughly loved it (again).
This is a stylistic, smart, beautifully designed horror game that delves deep into Swedish mythology. My only nitpick is that the game is too short, thus when you’ve gotten the hang of the puzzles and chosen to “walk again,” “Year Walk” is easy to solve a second time and, thus, the gameplay is quicker. But these are probably the best $4 I’ve spent in the App Store. This game deserves a larger following and all the purchases it can. Its premise is original, the controls are smooth, the illustrations stunning, and the myths behind it are intriguing. This is among my favorite games, and my #1 iOs horror game hands down.
I give this 2 stars! I’m not very good at puzzle games, and yet, this game was over and done with in one after dinner sitting. There are maybe 4 puzzles to solve. Why would they charge for such a short game?
The game a really good and thought out. I loved the style and music. I think it was so cool to incorperate folklore into this game and I wish there were more games like this but there were a few issues. The game was really short and expensive. I’d understand the price if the game was longer but it’s only a hour long, that is if you don’t get too confused. And I wish that you could experience it for a little bit longer. The game was also VERY confusing and difficult. I was very stuck on the part when you follow the Huldra into the tree and ended up deleting the game 3-4 times to get a fresh start and make sure I didn’t miss anything. I was also stuck on the part where you give the mylings to the kelpie (brook’s horse) and ended up spending about an hour trying to get the mylings, and 2 days trying to get out of the tree thing. Although the game was great, it would’ve been better if it was longer, less expensive, or less difficult.
Cons: it's very easy to give into the temptation of looking for cheats when everything is confusing and you don't understand the background lore. This game is definitely hard when you first play it without any background knowledge. I recommend exploring your surroundings and the game thoroughly in your first go around without the sole intention of finishing the game. Pros:This game is beautiful and weaves an interesting narrative. My biggest regret is not trying to explore more and instead rushing towards the end when I initially played it. Every once in a while I download this game again. It's a great game and I 100% recommend it.
Originally I was a little harsh. I thought it was a bit slow to start. Perhaps a little baiting in with interactiveness early on would have helped. However, if you stick with it, it does get a bit more intriguing. I think a Sequel with a bit more substance would be right on time. Keep it coming. Thanks!
I appreciate a challenging puzzle, but there’s absolutely zero help in this game. It’s also not friendly to people who are hard of hearing or who have ringing in their ears like I do. I can’t get past the dark woods. I’m assuming that you have to choose the path with appropriate scale tone, but it’s very frustrating for people with damaged hearing. Otherwise I absolutely loved the content and the graphics. Problem is that when you get stuck, you’re 100% totally done with the game. So I guess I’m done about 10 minutes in.
there’s a difference between being challenging yet engaging and rewarding and being completely obtuse and impenetrable. year walk’s puzzles are the latter. there’s also a difference between creating a creepy, haunting atmosphere and having jumpscares every time the player makes any progress. again, year walk is the latter. it would be cynical to say the obnoxious difficulty is to stretch the game’s length out to justify asking for 4 dollars, but unfortunately that seems to be pretty accurate. the companion is a nice idea but the lore it provides is pretty categorically not helpful. the art and sound design are nice. if you want good puzzles and/or creepy atmosphere i’d recommend something out of the cube escape series (many of which are FREE) or even this same company’s title DEVICE 6, which is superb. year walk, however, is just too unintuitive and poorly executed to recommend.
I honestly loved this game. The puzzles are challenging and the story is very intriguing. I will say that it is important for someone playing this to get the companion. Besides having information about the research that went into the game, it is essential to unlocking the alternate ending.
I had high hopes for this game, i love the Rusty Lake games and it seemed to be a similar feel, but that’s all it has going for it. Cool graphics and creepiness, but overall a dull game that ends way too quickly. 3 stars if free, 2 stars since you have to pay
You must download the campaign app or this is not worth it. The game went by too fast for the cost of the game. Very pretty game but I finished within an hour. Worth a play for the artwork. If you liked this game play the Rusty Lake series. Each game is longer and connected to one another. Rusty Lake is a slightly more disturbing version of this game, but significantly better.
And the companion is a must.
That’s some Grade A nightmare fuel there. My only complaint is the post-game, which tries to turn this into a House of Leaves narrative post ipso facto. It was definitely an essential post-game, but I wish it had been a bit more refined.
I really wanted to love this game. It really is lovely. Sadly the intentional shaky quality to the graphics gives me motion sickness & I have been unable to play for longer than a minute or two. Wish I could return it as it makes me nauseous.
I blazed through this amazing game without a guide or walkthrough- I really wish it was longer. I’m super bummed that I finished so quickly. I want more content! Plus- I’m seeing there’s mechanics in other versions of the game that I can’t use on the mobile version, like a MAP- which would have been helpful. Plus there’s hints on the map to how to open that BOX- which I’ll probably never figure out cause I’m on iOS- actually, you can. The companion guide to the game in a separate app. Wow. That story is GRIPPING. Incredible! I’m giving this one five stars, it’s well done. Extremely well done- even for how short it is.
I was enjoying the game. I think I’m pretty good at figuring out these types of games (like The Room, etc.), and I never look for hints or ask for help. To me that’s cheating myself, but I got absolutely stuck on this one. After several days coming back to it from time to time, I finally broke down and searched for some hints. I was angry to find out that you basically had to break the rules of the game and do something you weren’t supposed to be able to do in order to progress. To me this is cheating on the part of the game makers. I’m still mad about this.
Horrible. Do not waste your money. Wandering aimlessly for crap I see on YT walkthroughs that aren’t on the game I paid too much money for. Very much a ripoff despite any backing by Apple. Huge disappointment since years ago, Device6 was so good. Refund my money.
The game came with no instructions and I had no idea how to proceed. There was no way to get any hints either.
I love The Room series and games that have some mystery and storytelling. I kept putting off downloading this and can’t figure out why. It’s a beautiful game and doesn’t explain itself, which I love. You’re able to explore and enjoy the story at your own pace and it unfolds in a lovely way. Kudos to the developer.
The beginning of the game is a little rough since you’re not sure what you’re supposed to do and it’s hard to navigate the forest (I recommend drawing a map). I had to look at a walkthrough once to get me started and then I was able to solve the rest of the game on my own. The puzzles are very clever and the atmosphere is incredibly creepy (be prepared for some scary moments). I enjoyed playing it but considering how short it is I would expect it to cost less. The companion app does give some added value and an alternate ending but it’s not enough. Still, it’s a unique game and will give you an hour or two of great game play.
Idk compared to the room its not that great also its too short super confusing and not worth the $5 to be honest
I wasn’t lying in the title; this game is my absolute favorite and I will always come back to it. The story telling and the images bring forth a mystery that is accessible to all levels of theorist and game detective and conjures a strange world that I’ve gotten lost in every time I play. There isn’t much replay-ability but even with the same story over and over it’s still so much fun. The fact that it’s accompanied by a “companion” app and several short stories just shows you how much dedication went into this game. I cant really articulate how much I love this game because I honestly just think it’s perfect in its level of creepiness and strange beauty.
This is by far the best iPhone game I have ever played in my entire life. The depth of the story, the twists and turns, the eerie vibe of the forest, the puzzles, everything comes together to create an experience that will stick with you for a very long time. In fact, it will stick with ME for the rest of my life. I have a tattoo of the game’s logo (the minimalist goat head) on my inner forearm. It was my first ever tattoo and I haven’t regretted it once. That’s how good this game is, and how much the message contained within means to me. The overall message of the game is very deep and thoughtful, which I appreciated. The future is not something we should know!
I LOVE puzzle games and this one was a huge disappointment. The navigation is confusing and you have no real sense of detection. You wonder around aimlessly in hopes to find anything that makes sense. I don’t like having to look up walkthroughs to get past areas or in this case see what the hell I'm even supposed to be doing. I found the creepy doll and the owls in the tree where you’re given no clue as to how you get back out of the darn tree. This is where I needed to look up where to go. I got out, was given a key and now I’m over it. This game will be deleted from my phone. What a waste.
an amazing game, i just wish it was longer
You can only play this oriented one way. It doesn’t work with my set up. Simply thoughtless to not have that option after charging four bucks. I have not begun to play and I’ve already been put off this game.
For the price of the game, it is WAYY to short. I really regret buying this game.
Gorgeous artwork and music, challenging puzzles, and skillful weaving of mythology into a compelling story. I’m hooked!
Paid $4, downloaded the companion, figured out the code for the box, opened the box and got the ending credits! Feel like I totally wasted my $
10 minutes into the game and I’m completely lost. I’ve tried every possible path I can find and have searched for 2 hours. Save your time and money
It’s amazing! There is one problem though.. I NEED A MAPPPP!! I can’t figure out how to find the last baby!!
I opened the box after reading through the companion. It took me 20 minutes and that's it! That's all? Credits role! For $3.99?! I want an explanation and /or my money back!
This is one of my favorite games of all time. Possibly better than Device 6. Run don’t walk to play Year Walk.
This is one of the best iOS game I’ve ever played! It has an intriguing game play that pulls you along through a bizarre storyline. I really loved the folk lore and unique gameplay/design. Highly recommended!
Amazing design and an eerie mood with creepy sounds give you an interesting feel. I suggest playing this in a dark, quiet room. I’ve beat this game many times and it’s fun doing it again just because the experience is so enjoyable.
yet ANOTHER plug from the app store for this developer and its boring games. they all have been featured and they all are the same boring idea built on the same boring engine. with so many other great developers on app store to choose from, this is obvious favoritism.
I bought this game years ago, but hadn’t played it till recently. The art is simple and beautiful, although some jump scares are included. The puzzles are relatively easy to figure out. Given its price, it’s a short game. However, when I finished reading the companion, I was totally dazzled by the intricacies of this game. Every detail in this game now makes sense, and the story is complete. It’s officially one of my favorite puzzle games.
